The Kateryna Biloruska Foundation recently participated in an inspiring event at the Cultural Center in Dali, focused on how European research and innovation are being translated into real-world benefits for local communities in Cyprus.

The event, organized by the Municipality of South Nicosia – Idalion in collaboration with the University of Cyprus, highlighted the CiROCCO European project. This initiative is at the forefront of environmental monitoring, utilizing cutting-edge technology to protect both the environment and public health.

Innovation for Social Good

At the heart of the discussion was the development of Low-Cost Sensing Nodes (LCSNs)—environmental sensors designed to create early warning systems. These systems are crucial for:

  • Early detection for health and environmental protection.

  • Dust monitoring through cost-effective, sustainable systems.

  • Advancing climate change models to better predict and mitigate environmental challenges.

The event was attended by the Mayor of South Nicosia, Stavros Hatzigiannis, and provided a vital platform for public authorities, researchers, and experts to exchange views on building more resilient societies.

A Shared Vision for Cyprus

For the Kateryna Biloruska Foundation, staying informed about such initiatives is a priority. Our mission in Cyprus is deeply rooted in community well-being and sustainable development. This commitment is reflected in our own environmental efforts, such as the restoration of Aurora Park following the wildfires in Souni–Zanatzia.

“We believe that collaboration and innovation are the keys to a safer future,” the Foundation stated. “Seeing European projects bring together experts and local authorities to address climate challenges directly aligns with our goal of building a thriving, resilient community.”

Open for Collaboration

The Foundation remains committed to being part of the ongoing dialogue regarding sustainability in Cyprus. We are actively seeking new partnerships and collaborations with organizations that share our vision for social good and innovation. By combining research with community action, we can ensure a more sustainable future for all residents of the island.
